Thanks to Houston Tomorrow for referring this article from USA Today. Apparently, walkable neighborhoods make for happier folk. The study was conducted by Journal of Applied Research in Quality of Life. According to USA Today, “People who live in walkable communities are more socially engaged and trusting than those who live in less walkable areas”. The study compared three neighborhoods in New Hampshire with differing levels of walk-ability and found that residents of walkable neighborhoods had higher levels of social capital than those in other neighborhoods.
So apparently, residents of Midtown Houston are a whole lot happier than those mean, embittered folk out in Katy. Does walking to the coffee shop make you happy? I know it gets me giddy.
